Citizen asks Barton, “where is the proof?”

Citizen asks Barton, “where is the proof?”

By Fred Kirby

The letter from Hauser or Coos Bay resident Jon Barton that was published in the World newspaper 14 March appears to be a thinly veiled endorsement of the County Commissioner candidacy of his friend and political appointee Fred Messerle. The letter also appears to be an intentional insult foisted upon the educated liberals of Coos County with Barton’s derogatory “chattering class” comment. Spiro Agnew with nattering nabobs of negativity Barton isn’t! As a whole, county Structure Committee chairman Barton’s letter brings us more unsubstantiated Structure Committee assertions. Barton argues unsuccessfully that it’s time to cut our county solid waste department losses. What losses? If only Barton and his two friends on the Structure Committee whose findings have been challenged by fellow committee members and by a cross section of the county citizens would offer to us fact, not opinion, perhaps we would be listening and such letters would be unnecessary.

Of course most would believe that Barton is wrong – the solid waste department is not an”egregious example of what is wrong with government”. All government? But, if Barton is correct, and he and his pals back peddled after they implied that the solid waste department workers were a bunch of druggies, the solid waste department manager should be gone long before this letter is published. The department head apparently disagrees with Barton’s assertions and has the facts to prove Barton wrong. I’m listening. Barton’s letter begs the questions; if the organization has been losing money for years, where has Messerle, Parry and Main been? Why hasn’t the solid waste department head, or department employees, or budget committee members, or commissioners, long ago informed the people – their employers – of this significant many year loss? What specifically is wrong with the facility? What qualifies Barton to make his assertions? What equipment is in a “terribly sad state”? Whose estimate is the “hundreds of thousands of dollars” to repair – the outside engineer hasn’t started his assessment yet? Where’s the beef?

As in the case of the Barton recommended county manager and staff at perhaps $400,000 annually – or more based on his Jackson County example – it’s time to provide substantiation and support for his arguments to the citizens of Coos County.

The views expressed do not necessarily reflect the opinions of MGx.

Fred – just wondering if you want to retract any of this?

Al says, peeking from behind Fred’s skirt.

Fred: With all due disrespect, the county’s financials are a matter of public record. If, with your alleged years of international economic development experience, you are unable to follow the red ink on the county’s solid waste incineration, I scarcely think anyone can help you. There is no Bartonian conspiracy here, just a county with declining solvency subsidizing an operation incapable of breaking even. Fred, for all your dogma, we respectfully request again for you to provide a actual resume of your work history that includes company names, dates of employment, job titles and a supervisor’s names and phone number. You consistently avoided providing this during your mayoral campaigns. Institutions don’t count. And in the future, please provide your real name, or we will. The truth matters to most of us. Until then, we’re still waiting…

If you didn’t think Sanne was a threat, why would you spend so much time looking for a two month old post, just to tell us how unimportant it is.

The boys be lookin behind ‘em now. That’s a very good thing.

Like these feeble attempts to discredit a working class candidate are going to sway anyone’s vote. We know who works, and who sells us down the river.

Mr. Sanne has no chance of rebuilding some of the claims of Barton. Some are true, some are not. Mr Sanne was most of the problem at the Solid Waste.
Thank God he’s finally out of there.

Speaking of Jon Barton, I just stumbled upon this tidbit. Anyone out there know how a struggling clinic, serving the poorest among us, bought a $50,000.00 satellite chaser from Jon Barton?

Don’t miss the lonely one comment.

So I heard, Salmonologist, and considering Barton just got caught with his pants down via the county acknowledging the matter with Waste Connections he must be running for cover. Presumably, the paper is working on this story so we will see how they interpret the numbers at solid waste or if they can distinguish between construction waste and regular waste when they claim numbers are down everywhere.
My guess is Sherman is Barton, and I can guarantee that deceptions is the same come.on I had to ban from MGx because of his fascination with genitalia but is not Pettit, rather deceptions (a Freudian name choice?) is ORCishly affiliated with a certain penny stock mining outfit. Perhaps they are worried their stock might go down if the public knew the staff are of such low character.

Hey Mary, “deceptions” Al Pettit just gave you a shout out on the The World’s article “Time to cut our solid waste losses”. Kudos, they are really squirming now! :)

Yes,Jon Barton and his lemmings and wanna-be’s are lecturing us all about “business does this, and business does that”, shut the hell up boys, let the men and women who WORK at solid waste make these decisions, not some fat-ass business dork sitting “at the table” making these decisions. I trust our work force, not Jon Barton At The Trough.

Barton and his orcish buddy “deceptions” and Pettit have egg on their face now. County counsel’s letter validated everything we have been saying here for weeks while invalidating the Barton/Sherman spin machine.

Its certain Jon Barton is the coach to this group that’s privatizing tax dollars for SCDC members. That many connections and deals for accessing tax dollars must be worth a fortune. If Jon focuses on a target he will LIE, and oh yea he will LIE some more to accomplish his goals. He has his own pose working the comments at the world, their job is to build-up or tear down, depending on what SCDC needs to accomplish, and very soon we can expect to see his pose of letter writers going to work to cement their candidates for BOC.

I certainly hope that Mr. Sanne can rebut the Barton claims. Let there be no doubt that the “Chattering Class” remark was directed at MGX. Consider it an honor. Barton could have checked with Wikipedia or Ask or Google before using that one. Perhaps he feels like a brother to Messerle having been appointed to the Port, having been aappointed to the airport, and losing when he ran for reelection, and kicked off the port commission by the gov.
