When my oldest son, a Marine, left for war and crossed the border from Kuwait into Iraq in March 2003 I started writing my conscience. After two tours that young combat veteran, my first born son, is now permanently disabled suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and his mother is now an ardent peace activist. Today I am active with Veterans for Peace, Military Families Speak Out and on the board of Rural Organizing Project Also, I am CEO of Rogue River Wind, Ltd and the inventor of a low profile wind turbine incorporating a high bandwidth relativistic generator

CPD officer needs ‘charm school’">CPD officer needs ‘charm school’

Gosh, it appears that nerves are a little raw and at least one Coquille officer is extremely sensitive. Today, Coquille Valley Sentinel editor, Jean Ivey called the CPD to ask about the National Night Out and why an event billed as a family event would include a taser demonstration in full view of small children. The officer in charge of the event, James Bryant, advised Ivey that the demonstration showed the public that anyone shot with a taser could not ‘fight through’ and resist. When Ivey asked what place such a demonstration had at a family night out the officer became defensive and accused Ivey of being argumentative, refused the interview, referred her to Sargeant Smith and hung up the phone. So much for public outreach.

Ivey immediately contacted Smith who decided to handle the matter in person and spoke with Ivey at the Sentinel offices. “That young man needs to go to charm school”, she said. Smith would not speak for Bryant but did try and explain the demonstrations since Bryant would not. Smith also emphasized that he was trying to build a department that was more open, communicative and assessable to the public and demonstrated his efforts by addressing this matter in person. Clearly, Smith has an uphill battle with some of the officers he has to work with.

  1. Big suprise, gee just how did I know that you were gonna turn what was a fun day for all involved into negative attack on officer Bryant and the P.D.

You are becoming so predictable. It was pretty damn obvious that you were only there to find something to use against them.

It just kills you to compliment officer Bryant does’nt it? He busted his ass to make that day happened and all you can do is make him a bad guy, yet again. If you would have looked around at the kids and other people there you would have noticed everybody enjoying themselves and having a damn good time. Instead you chose to look for ammunition to use for your little crusade.

You really think your somethin don’t you? with your little camera and your notebook and your little interveiws with the taser participants, its Mike Fjeld by the way you might want to pay closer attention when using people’s names. Get over yourself your not some hotshot investigative reporter. Just cause you and a million other people have a blog page and a weekly newspaper column does’nt mean you are important. It means you have nothing better to do than sit on your ass all day and write negative bullshit about people who actually work for a living and make people sick who pass you on your little bike rides.

Nobody but you and your little sidekicks thought negatively of the event. people I overheard talking thought Officer Bryant organized a wonderful event and I agree. If all you are gonna do is look for bad things why don’t you just stay in your little computer chair and quit coming to public events, nobody wants to see you in your see thru shirts with a black bra anyway. That was way more offensive to a family event than any taser demo could ever be, not to mention just gross and tacky.

    Have a nice day.

  2. My, my, my.… when did I criticize the event? Not once. Nor did Jean Ivey for that matter. She only brought up questions that had arisen from the public and hoped to obtain an answer to report it in the paper.

Are you guys really so sensitive you can’t answer a few questions? Do you ALWAYS have to go on the attack to protect yourselves? Are your egos really that fragile? Obviously, yes. Maybe that explains why that officer carries his pecker extender on his hip off duty.

I didn’t hang up on Ivey, I just reported it. If you are worried about the image of the department try building up its character and the image will improve along with it. Your whining just perpetuates the dark side… you are not helping your beloved CPD.

  3. flamelick, we’ve missed ya sweetie, where ya’all been? Eatin lots of sugar there, yer just as sweet as ever.

Try discussion sometime, it just might benefit ya. Maybe that’s what the problem is, ya do just fine in secret.……just not too good with the light of day.

Grow up and at least TRY to act adult, it would help ya immensely, and make this sooooo much more fun for the adults here.

    What’cha think ?

    Or do you?

  4. What a hate-on ya got going there, I’m amazed, read yer letter again, what the hell ya hung up on see through shirts and black bras?

Maybe ya outta try it, seem to have a little problem in that department? LIke I’ve stated before online, some on the right just resent the hell out of the lefts’ ability to enjoy themselves. I fear this is what we have here. Maybe a black bra would do wonders for ya, AND those around ya? Seem awfully uptight there, and really jealous, aren’t we? Tut tut tut.

Try enjoying something for a change. You know, a “virgin” experience, methinks yer just too too frustrated for yer own good.

shame on you and yer personal attacks on a fellow citizen.

Tasers at a family “fun fest”?

Yeah, show the kiddies how Daddy electrocutes his friends at work, yup, great learning adventure in that one. Never heard of such a thing.

HEY, I just thought of something, perhaps next yer he could actually set up a gallows, you know? Show the kiddies how to to break a mans’ neck , only do it in public?

I suppose you think that would be fun too?

  5. Best just to ignore this. Flamelick, et al only reaffirm the worst opinions people have about police in general everywhere. Only one officer represented himself and the department professionally and he wasn’t afraid to use his real name. He may hate me just as much as the others but he hasn’t made the department look bad in the process.

What we glean from these outbursts is that the CPD are very insecure, surly, rude and undeserving of the trust the public has placed in them AND pays them for. Also, several of them seem to be married to neurotic, emotional wives who can’t spell and use bad grammar. What is the point of presenting that face to the public?

By the way, if it were my aim to embarrass the department I could have done so on several occasions including just recently. The department embarrasses itself, I don’t have to do anything.

Citizens are watching the officers, one or two in particular…

  6. Are you guys really so sensitive you can’t answer a few questions? Do you ALWAYS have to go on the attack to protect yourselves? Are your egos really that fragile? Obviously, yes. Maybe that explains why that officer carries his pecker extender on his hip off duty.”

Who is you guys and yourselves that you refer to? you seem to think you know who I am so why don’t you take a stab at it. I bet you think I’m an Officer for CPD or the wife of one don’t you? News flash bitch, not everyone that disagrees with you idiots is an officer or wife of one.

Themguys, You made mention of being jealous, now you made me laugh. I thank god that I am nothing remotely like you, cause I would have to kill myself if I was. Do you guys really think anything you do is making a difference or helping anyone? You do it all for you, no one else. why don’t you admit it? You are not tryin to help this community, your tryin to get your name in the news. Nothing more than an attention whores.

HEY, I just thought of something, perhaps next yer he could actually set up a gallows, you know? Show the kiddies how to to break a mans’ neck , only do it in public?

I suppose you think that would be fun too?”

Only if it was you Sweetie!!

Magix, once again in your last post you seem to think I’m an officer. Hate to disappoint you idiot, I’m not an officer. I am a guy who breaks his back six days a week working on logtrucks. I do it so I can raise my family in a country that fucksticks like you and your girlfriends are ruining with your dumbass agendas.

I will tell you I am the brother of one of the wives of the P.D. I would ask that you watch what you say about them. I have never said anything about your family when I could have so you don’t need to either.

I guess you would no somthing about embarrassing people would’nt you? Practice makes perfect!!

  7. No one gives a damn whether you’re a cop or not, defending them in the manner that you do DOES NOT HELP their image or yours either. The language you use, the tone of your comments speak poorly for the department, particularly if they are representative of the department, the wives, etc.… You exemplify the very things people object to about the department —- You are not helping them, I assure you.

Listen, no one whose opinion I value regards your crude language and observations highly. If you don’t like what is said here, don’t read what is said here.

  8. Wow, what a piece of work this one is. I’m not buying it. What a sad F.

You talk about a woman’s personal clothing, when you’ve never met her, what gives you the right? Why are you even here? You obviously hate women, perhaps your time would be better spent on therapy big guy, what’cha think? If I’ve ever seen a basket case of hate, it be you.

Let’s see your expansive use of the English language:

    Bitch
    Whores
    Idiot
    Fucksticks
    Dumbass

Boy, you’ve mastered English real well, must be real proud of yerself, Gawd I hope you don’t have a wife, poor thing if you do. Has anyone told her you hate women? I mean really, really hate women?

How dare you threaten us or any other woman like you did. I better be careful about criticizing the police? What they gonna do big guy, break my neck? Ooops, been there done that.

Grow up, if you have something intelligent to say come back sometime, if you just want to get yer hate-on of women ? Go somewhere else.

Did you come here to discuss something or just hide behind a fake name and call women you don’t even know names?

    Hum, let me guess.

Ya need to tighten them thar suspenders fella, yer big ol bigotted arse is a showin.

I think yer a very dangerous person.

Care to discuss rude cops or just want to be rude?

  9. I read recently over 300 people have been electrocuted to the point of death with tasers, I’m going to see if that’s true or not. I believe tasers are used because cops are not getting proper training, it’s no longer the last , it’s the first defense for the cops. No negotiating, no stand-offs, no phone calls, no sitting out the night waiting for someone to pass out before storming them, a lazy, uneducated, fearful cop will electrocute first, ask questions later.

A perfect tool for frightened, lazy cops.

For this to be included in a community night out is just the most ignorant thing I’ve heard recently. Especially with a PD embroiled in so much controversy to begin with.

Someone didn’t think that one through. I would have raised hell had my young children been exposed to Legal Torture Techniques, period.

  10. Hey themguys, what is really worrisome here is that if an officer like Bryant can’t keep his cool during an interview with the paper how are we to be assured that he can keep his cool during the line of duty.… oh, wait, we know how that can turn out don’t we?

flamelick is a cop or a wife or both and the character reflected by the comments here, the comments of another wife previously and the comments made by the wife of the outgoing police chief about inmates wearing pink underwear are indicative of a very ignorant viewpoint. Certainly not any viewpoint any city would be proud to have published.

  11. I think so too, just waaay too much emotion over the issue. Just like Bryant, if he can’t cite ya, arrest ya, taser ya, drop ya, hit ya, he simply doesn’t know WHAT to do !

Seems to have lost all reasoning skills, certainly verbal ones.

I had boy cousins like that, bullies one and all. I’m afraid if he stays in this line of work somebody’s going to get.….….….….….….……

Sorry, I always forget, he already has.

Better work on that if you’re related to him flamelick. The boys not right.

  12. Well as usual you have it all wrong themguys. I don’t hate woman. I hate you two, and I’m not to sure you are women anyway. What makes you think I’ve never met her anyway?

I do have a wife and she is treated very well. Perhaps your a little jealous, aren’t you? Tut tut tut.

I don’t recall threatening anyone by the way. I merely asked you not talk about my family, meaning my sister not the police. Read it again.

You must have been behind Mary when you seen the big’ol arse and the dangerous person.

Mary, read this very slowly so you might understand; I AM NOT A COP YOU IDIOT!!!! Thats right I said idiot again. I put tires on logtrucks I don’t put your friends in jail when they do stupid things. Wich lets face it, thats what your problem is anyway.

If you don’t like happens in this town, don’t live in this town. Please!!!

  13. OOooooohhhhhhh, the last bastion of an idiot.

    Call names.

    Insult.

    Do not discuss rationally.

Why are you here flamelick? What is yer problem? Yeah, I just bet yer wife is treated really well. No man that can’t respect a woman is a man no woman should have to live with.

Is it that Magix is doing something? Anything? Is it her black bra under a shirt, which if you’d been outside yer county there Goober in the last few years, is quite chic. That’s chic Goob, not chic as in chicken. Obviously this is a lost cause.

And yeah, you did threaten there big guy, with yer “I would ask that you watch what you say about them.” That’s a threat whether you want to recognize it as such. Better be careful there .

You drip with envy of the fact a fellow citizen calls a spade a spade , and does it honestly and above board.

Electrocuting a human in front of children was a stupid, moronic , thoughtless piece of crap.

And if yer point in response to my statement of why don’t you just hang someone in public was to say “if it was you”. IS a threat, and I took it that way. Better smart up a little there. You’re getting into dangerous territory there.

Grow up, educate yourself, accept the fact women are just as, if not more, smart as you and have every right to call out a pompous , ignorant , arrogant cop if need be. Bryant is full of rage, and other people pay the price for his rage. Boy needs therapy and quick. If not, I fear where he’s heading.

  14. Happily, I am aware that the PD sincerely wants to improve relations with the public and made earnest efforts to ‘mend fences’. Since comments made by ‘flamelick’ do not aid and abet that effort and to avert any further damage that may be done to the department’s reputation by this poster, I have terminated flamelick’s posting privileges.

We are all optimistic that the new police chief will usher in an era of communication and mutual respect between the officers and the taxpayer… let us not make it any harder than it already is by perpetuating commentary like flamelick’s above…

    thanks

  15. I agree Magix, good call. I do believe a fresh start is going to help most of the department, and hopefully the citizens of Coquille and their visitors.

  16. THIS is what a properly functioning Police Dept. does when they have an out of control cop:

    http://www.wyff4.com/news/17136655/detail.html

    Coquille? Naw.….….….….…

  17. Should have said : Formally wouldn’t have done.

I do sincerely hope the new Department will be one the citizens work with, not be fearful from.

  18. Yes, I am inclined to be optimistic that a new chief will raise the bar not just in the PD but within all of city hall. Only in Coquille can someone have their character maligned simply for applying for a police chief job or be ridiculed for trying to live a healthy lifestyle and riding a bike… (probably by a smoker no less).

Anyway, Dannels, the incoming chief, is highly educated and has been exposed to different management philosophies. With luck, he can teach his staff more effective ways of handling disagreements and improving public image. Plus, he is in to soccer which is one of my favorite sports.

  19. Hi all…magix…good call on flamelick. I believe I know exactly who he is…and I’m amazed and sad that he has come to this position in his life.

I have a great deal of hope for Coquille with the new Chief.

Officer Bryant is a little badge heavy, but hopefully, if the new chief is as skilled as they say in management philosophies, he will retrain Bryant to be a human and not Robocop.

And I still think Sgt Smith is the bomb. He’s a good guy.

  20. Hi PM,

We do know who flamelick is. flamelick has been ‘made’ as they say and is actually a composite personality emanating from one household or family rather. Yes, it is rather sad.

Smith has assured me that he is staying, going to complete his degree and get some mentoring from the new guy. Then in a few years he may be our police chief.
