Eric Farm and Donna Opitz have yet to be confirmed by the legislature but are likely to be the latest addition to the Port of Coos Bay commission according to statements made at last night’s meeting. Blah! Look for more of the same rubber stamp approach to every development scheme proposed by port staff that we have witnessed these last several years.

SENATE CONFIRMATION OF EXECUTIVE APPOINTMENTS
171.562 Procedures for confirmation. The Senate by rule adopted during a session or at a convening of the Senate to carry out its duties under section 4, Article III of the Oregon Constitution, shall specify its procedures for the confirming of appointments by the Governor that are by law subject to confirmation by the Senate. [1981 c.4 §1; enacted in lieu of 171.560]
171.565 Vote required for confirmation; interim Senate meetings. (1) In case of any executive appointment made subject to confirmation of the Senate, the affirmative vote of a majority of the members of the Senate shall be necessary for confirmation. If an appointment is not confirmed by the Senate, the Governor shall make another appointment, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
(2) The name of the individual to be appointed or reappointed shall be submitted to the Senate by the Governor. The Senate shall take up the question of confirmation as soon after the convening of a regular or special session as is appropriate or upon a convening of the Senate to carry out its duties under section 4, Article III of the Oregon Constitution. The question of confirmation may be referred to committee or it may be acted upon without such referral.
(3) Members of the Senate convened to carry out duties of the Senate under section 4, Article III of the Oregon Constitution, shall be considered in attendance at a meeting of an interim committee during the period of convening for purposes of ORS 171.072.
(4) If the name of an individual to be appointed or reappointed submitted by the Governor is not acted upon during the term of the Legislative Assembly to which it is submitted, the name may be resubmitted to the subsequent term by the Governor on or after the date the Legislative Assembly convenes in the subsequent regular session. [1981 c.4 §2; enacted in lieu of 171.570; 1985 c.35 §1]

The Reminder

We all know the Governor submits the names that are recommended to him. That line of individuals have his trust. They are all in competition with his wife’s advisers, who have a leaning towards Green Industries. They are waging a PR campaign in the Portland and Salem area, while they support the plans of the port and SCDC by placing entrenched people at the table. They are not going to change directions, not until the public pressure to stop supporting the interests of the fossil fuel industries reaches a tipping point.

Take that Coos County taxpayers!!
What’s the point of even talking about it anymore? Nothing is going to change in this county, period. Too much power and control. The same people promising you jobs for twenty years, the same people. They won’t bring you jack-squat, but they will suck your tax dollars and every other taxpayer, and pat themselves on the back and crow about how stoooopid you all are, because you aren’t one of them.
Well, I feel stoooopid tonight just reading this.
What’s the point of discussing it? We know, they know, gubernut knows…… and so it goes.

No need to apologize for the Ophus/Opitz mix-up, Mary. As shown by her DOE comment, Donna Opitz can’t even spell “Jordan Cove.”

Regarding Opitz, yuck! What has she done, period? Protoge of Jeff McKeown, former employee with McKeown, married to do nothing Ron Opitz, God rest his soul, now she’s a real estate lady. Yes, she was a school board member. Rubber Stamp is an understatement. Harmless to the desires of the port chairman, yes. Knowledegable about port, railroad, county, anthing, probably no.

She could be very knowledgeable about those things especially. Maybe she served Ron and Jon coffee at the dinner table and happen to be within earshot of those SCDC plans for economic development when they were first hatched.
