Olbermann – Special Comment – Health care reform

Picture 7“…Keith Olbermann’s plan to embrace the selfless individuals at the National Association of Free Clinics to make a public statement in support of health reform.” Posted in its entirety, the hour long Countdown Special Comment on America’s health care. Transcript can be read here

thus tonight, for all those who we have met along the way, those with whom we have shared the last two months inside the belly of the beast, and for everyone in this country who will be here and right soon tonight, Countdown will be devoted entirely to a Special Comment on the subject of health care reform in this country.

Olbermann – Top socialist states in America

Topping the list is “Lets secede from the Union” Texas! Government run flood insurance has been around for decades but that only covers ‘property’, not people.

Olbermann – Examining the Baucus health care reform sellout

Put simply, Senator Max Baucus’ health reform proposal appears to have been well worth the $3M he has received from the health insurance industry while sticking it to middle class America.

Below is a recap of what maintaining the status quo has already cost Oregon.

Health Insurance Reform Cannot Wait in Oregon

Last week, the U.S. Census released its new numbers for the uninsured. The results are sobering and confirm that health insurance reform cannot wait another year. Nationwide, the number of uninsured increased from 39.8 million in 2001 to 46.3 million in 2008. The facts below underscore the urgency of health insurance reform for residents of Oregon.

* The status quo is not an option. The number of uninsured in Oregon has increased from 430,000 in 2001 to 621,000 in 2008. The percent of non-elderly adults without insurance increased from 15.2% to 21.5%. And this number only considers people who are uninsured for an entire year – it does not include the millions of people in Oregon who have more recently lost coverage through the recession, or who had shorter gaps in their coverage.

* Private coverage is eroding under the status quo. The percentage of people with employer-based coverage decreased from 73.1% of the population in 2001 to 69.7% in 2008.

* More workers are being left without protection from health care costs. Too many workers in Oregon do not have health coverage, at 393,000 in 2008. And the proportion of workers from Oregon without insurance has increased, from 14.6% in 2001 to 20.2% in 2008.

* The problem of the uninsured is a problem that crosses income brackets. The new Census numbers also drive home the fact that everyone in Oregon is vulnerable to losing health insurance. An additional 57,000 people from high-income households are now uninsured.

White House calls out Glenn Beck ‘czar’ lies

Striking back at the efforts of Fox News host, Glenn Beck to paint President Obama as a communist because of ‘32 czars’ in his administration, the White House strikes a hefty blow to reveal Beck’s lies.

Over the past several weeks, we’ve seen with increasing frequency and volume issues raised around the use of “czars” by this Administration. Although some Members have asked serious questions around the makeup of the White House staff, the bulk of the noise you hear began first with partisan commentators, suggesting that this is somehow a new and sinister development that threatens our democracy. This is, of course, ridiculous. Just to be clear, the job title “czar” doesn’t exist in the Obama Administration. Many of the officials cited by conservative commentators have been confirmed by the Senate. Many hold policy jobs that have existed in previous Administrations. And some hold jobs that involved coordinating the work of agencies on President Obama’s key policy priorities: health insurance reform, energy and green jobs, and building a new foundation for long-lasting economic growth

The use of the word czar to represent the point man in an organization or department was coined in 1973 to describe President Nixon’s appointee to the Director of the Office of Energy Policy, John Love. Whether the media uses the term ‘czar’ to shorten an otherwise lengthy job title, like call Staff Sargeant Smith ‘Sarge’ for short has no more to do with communism today than it did when Nixon was in office.

Why is Fox News so comfortable allowing a know nothing, fear mongering idiot like Beck have a platform? Oh, yeah, advertising money is more important than democracy or journalistic integrity.

Countdown did a good run down, again, of the Beck hallucinations and deliberate misrepresentations.

The University of “I am making this up”

Olbermann – Special comment – Factual errors worse than rudeness

Keith outdoes himself tonight and rightly points out that we have way too much ignorance in this country and in Congress for this country to prevail. Rep Joe Wilson was not only disrespectful, he was WRONG!

In my opinion, the same can be said for some of the elected officials in Coos County as well.

Olbermann – More on Glenn Beck hallucinations

This is so funny and so pathetically sad that someone like this has a national voice… thinking people must be seriously outnumbered

Olbermann – Refuting Glenn Beck

How does someone this delusional obtain and retain a national stage? Does News Corp have no professional or moral standards whatsoever? Glenn Beck is either the most ignorant host of a network news program I have ever seen or he is deeply, deeply, undeniably disturbed.

Olbermann – No compassion for disabled at town hall meeting

Amazing how propaganda can cause an electorate to vote against its own interests again and again and again.

Olbermann – Cheney still defending the indefensible

Jeremy Scahill analyzes Cheney’s tortured rationale for torturing people.
